Agost

Potters are recorded at Agost from 1277 and the trade has never stopped. The reason is the local white, lime-rich clay, which fires pale and stays slightly porous, exactly the quality wanted in a water jar.

The botijo cools its contents by letting a little water evaporate through the wall. The Museu de Cantereria, founded in 1981, holds several thousand pieces and shows how the whole town worked.
